Buying Online
Buying a used car is very personal, so look for a model that matches your specific needs in terms of size and space, fuel type and trim level. You’ll also want to consider your overall or monthly budget.
When buying a used car from a reputable dealer such as J Edgar & Sons, we recommend checking the general condition of the vehicle, asking to view the service history and going for a test drive. If buying privately, it’s important to check the vehicle is legally up for sale and that the VIN matches that on the V5C document too.
The best new family car for you depends on your specific needs. Popular choices, however, include the Hyundai i30, Nissan Qashqai and Suzuki SX4 S-Cross, all of which are available from J Edgar & Sons.
As with buying used, the new vehicle you choose depends on your needs and budget. Decide how much space you need, what sort of vehicle is suited to your lifestyle and environment, and what safety and convenience features you require.
Among the best-selling used cars in 2018 were the Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa, Nissan Qashqai and Volkswagen Golf. Many of these models are available from J Edgar & Sons.
Used cars are, on the whole, much more reliable than in the past. Most are built to last many years, and buying an approved used car from a reputable dealer provides extra peace of mind, due to the quality standards that need to be met.
Looking After Your Vehicle
New cars don’t need their first MOT test until three years after their registration date. So if your car was registered on 1 March 2018, its first MOT will be due on 1 March 2021. It will then need to undergo the test every year thereafter.
It’s generally recommended that vehicles are serviced every year or 12,000 miles – whichever comes first. To find out how often your model should be serviced, however, check your owner’s manual.
A full car service includes inspections of the vehicle’s key components and systems including oil, steering, suspension and more. Contact us today for full details.
All safety elements of the vehicle are checked in an MOT, including lights, brakes, tyres, seat belts and more. Contact us today for a full list of what the test includes.
Financing
Car finance packages enable you to pay for your vehicle over an agreed period at fixed monthly rates. There are several different types of finance plan, which our team will be happy to explain.
The value of a vehicle does affect how much it costs to insure, although newer cars are likely to have more security devices and safety mechanisms in place, meaning the premium can prove cheaper than on older cars.
